Biography

I am a college professor, father of two and paratriathlete.  I picked up the sport of triathlon as the inaugural Ironman 70.3 Syracuse was announced in 2010 having never done a race before. I'm not a great swimmer, nor a strong runner, but enjoy biking the hills in and around Syracuse.  I figured how hard could a triathlon be?  In September 2010 I found out just how hard it was and despite finishing the race as an age group athlete, I swore I'd never try triathlon again.

After a couple years off, my stance on lining up for another 70.3 changed and I'd take on the challenge of the Syracuse 70.3 again.  It's since become a staple of my summer and then in 2014, I added a few local sprint and olympic distance races to my summer weekends.  I was encouraged to get classified for paratriathlon and met with USA Paratriathlon in 2015 at the Nantucket Triathlon for my classification. I stepped onto the podium for the first time at the Nantucket Triathlon with a second place finish and have raced in the PC division since then.

Entering 2017, I had my first structured year where I planned a full season of races.  I set a goal to become an Ironman All World Athlete and hit that mark.  As the 2018 season came into focus I expanded into duathlon and off-road triathlon with Xterra events becoming an All-American in off-road tri and won the National Championship for paraduathlon. I repeated the National Championship in 2019 and took home Ironman 70.3 PC wins in Virginia, Connecticut and Lake Placid to top the All World Athlete Rankings for PC athletes for the second time in three years. I also won the PC category at Ironman Lake Placid, my first successfully completed 140.6 race.

Outside of triathlon, I teach about the music business at Syracuse University and have released records and managed bands as part of Aux Records + Management, an independent music company that I own. Currently I’m writing my first book and my biggest achievement is that I’m a father of a son and a daughter.
